Interview with
Stephanie from
Pink Orchid Press
When did you start letterpress printing?:
What do you like best about letterpress printing?:
I love collaborating with new clients to create beautiful pieces that I would have never even imagined-- and then seeing how amazing the end result is!
What inspires you?:
My family is my inspiration to keep going with my business. Every day that I can wake up and play with my little one before answering emails is a day to be thankful that I do what I do. My wonderful clients and their brilliant ideas are my inspiration for many-a project. I love textures and patterns, and often peruse fabric shops for design ideas.
Which press(es), ink & paper do you usually use?:
- Chandler & Price 10"x15" OS, circa 1894
- Primarily Van Son oil-based inks, though we use rubber-based for certain projects
- Like most other printers, we prefer Crane's Lettra. However, we also print on various other papers, including Arturo, Somerset, and Rives, depending on our clients' needs
How would you describe your artwork?:
Modern with a touch of antiquity. I love cheesy artwork, especially for greeting cards, but prefer clean, elegant, and stunning designs for bridal, baby, and personal/business correspondence pieces.
What kind of products do you create?:
Wedding stationery, birth announcements, personal stationery, business correspondence, coasters, holiday and everyday greetings, ex libris/book plates
Do you offer custom work?:
Where can we buy your products?:
www.pinkorchidpress.com, www.etsy.com/shop/pinkorchidpress
Do you offer workshops? If yes, what kind of?:
Not yet, but we do plan on offering some workshops in the future
Is there anything you wished you had known as a beginner?:
I wish I had known how much paper I would go through just learning how to print, and then how much would be wasted perfecting those learned skills. Letterpress printing is much more difficult to get right than it seems, and is a constant learning experience.
